Volvik Sponsors Founders Cup
Volvik (volvik.com), known the world over for the outstanding performance characteristics and vibrant color options of its golf balls, announces its title sponsorship of the 2020 Volvik Founders Cup, to be played March 19-22 at Wildfire Golf Club at JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa, in Phoenix.
“We
are proud to participate as the title sponsor of this event that honors
the founders of the LPGA and does so much to grow the game we all love
through the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Program,” said Don Shin, president of
Volvik USA. “Volvik plays a vital role in growing the game by offering
high-quality, attractive golf balls for players of every skill level,
and by bringing a wide array of colors and a unique matte finish into
the golf ball market.”
The 10th annual
Founders Cup, which will be a full-field, four-day event featuring a
$1.5 million purse, will be televised on Golf Channel. Jin Young Ko is
the defending champion.
The
Founders Cup was established in 2011 as a tribute to the 13 original
founders of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and to help
continue the growth of the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Program, which has
received over $3 million from tournament proceeds.
In
1950, the dreams and visions of 13 courageous women who wanted to play
professional golf became a reality with the founding of the LPGA. The 13
LPGA founders are: Alice Bauer, Patty Berg, Bettye Danoff, Helen
Dettweiler, Marlene Bauer Hagge, Helen Hicks, Opal Hill, Betty Jameson,
Sally Sessions, Marilynn Smith, Shirley Spork, Louise Suggs and Babe
Zaharias.
